June is National Safety Month! To celebrate, the National Safety Council
will be highlighting a different important safety topic in order to raise
awareness and better educate the public every week throughout the month!
We here at Lauri J. Goldstein & Associates, PLLC believe safety is
an extremely important issue that can never be emphasized enough, as proper
safety procedures can reduce the causes of injury and death in every setting!
This Year’s Safety Topics
The NSC has selected four extremely important and relevant topics for this
year’s safety month. Each of these topics has become a pressing
modern issue, so focusing on preparation for these situations and knowing
how to actively avoid the danger can go a long way towards helping everyone
life a happier and healthier life.
The first week of June is entitled “Stand Up to Falls,” and
will focus heavily on fall injuries, including falling off things, slip-and-fall
injuries, and other general dangers that cause people to become injured
through losing their footing and hitting the ground. As a Martin County
personal injury attorney, Lauri Goldstein knows how devastating a fall
injury can be, and focusing on avoiding and preventing these accidents
through smart decisions and awareness of risk factors will help everyone
live a happier and healthier life.
The second week will focus on fatigue and the immense risk it can have
on our daily lives. Fatigue causes you to lose focus, which can dramatically
increase your risk of injury in even seemingly innocuous situations. Fatigue
while behind the wheel of a car can cause a serious accident and injuries
to both you and those around you. Fatigue at work, particularly if you
work with dangerous equipment or substances, can also lead to serious
injuries. This week’s tips will focus on getting the proper amount
of rest you need in order to make sure you are alert and attentive each day.
Week three focuses on what to do in the emergency of an active shooter.
Those with ill intent and a firearm can appear without warning and in
many cases those around the shooter are not prepared for how to handle
the situation. This usually incites panic which leads to further injuries,
fatalities, and an overall more devastating situation. This week’s
tips will focus on how to barricade yourself for safety to avoid a shooter,
and how to respond calmly and act quickly when news of a shooter reaches you.
Finally, week four of National Safety Month 2017 focuses on general health
through ergonomics and the devastating impact sitting for hours each day
can have on your body. The week’s theme, “Don’t Just
Sit There,” will focus heavily on encouraging people to be more
active during their days, including investing in things like standing
desks if possible. Likewise, everyone can also focus on better posture
and making good eating decisions to minimize the effects a stagnant office
job that has you sitting for hours at a time can have.
