Seawind Elementary Students Graduate from DARE program
A Law Firm of Schmitt, Cambron & Reynolds, P.L. supported the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program in 4 Martin County public schools by providing them with tee shirts. D.A.R.E. is an 11-week course that educates children on substance abuse, encouraging them to resist drug and gang membership. Attorney Tom Schmitt represented the firm at the D.A.R.E. graduation for Seawind Elementary School in Hobe Sound.
Out of the 1500 students that graduate from the D.A.R.E. program every year, more than 140 were from Seawind elementary. Martin County Deputy Martha Williams taught the classes. On completion of the course work, all the students write an essay regarding what they learned about drug and alcohol use and how it negatively affects their lives. Each class has a class winner, and then one overall winner is chosen from those. This year, RJ Macedo, Jarrod Hemann, Analiese Cremers, Peyton Stromik, Jakob Major, Catalina Pike, and Michael Schaeffer won in their respective class. Ryan Potawsky was the overall winner.
At the graduation, attendees heard several people speak, including Deputy Williams, Principal Ager, Superintendent Gaylord, and Attorney Schmitt. In his remarks, Tom Schmitt said that he and the law firm were honored to support D.A.R.E., encouraging the students to always remember what they had learned about drug and substance abuse. He closed by stating that each of the students were winners, but if they ever had a problem, to call his firm and they could help.
