Driver In Fatal Truck Accident Has 'Troubling' Driving Record

We recently heard about a fatal accident involving a semi-trailer on Interstate 75 near Tampa. What's especially troubling about this accident is that the driver of the big rig has "a troubled driving history," according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 12. The 30-year-old truck driver was southbound on Interstate 75. When he was on the portion that passes over the Alafia River, he apparently tried to pass a vehicle and ended up hitting the car.

The collision caused the semi to overturn. The car was sent plunging into the Alafia and the driver, a 42-year-old Parrish man, was killed.

An accident that results in the death of an innocent person would be bad enough, but it turns out this driver has a poor driving history. The Tampa Bay Times reported that he more than two dozen infractions over the past decade and had his driver's license suspended six times.

As a Stuart personal injury attorney, I believe it is important for people to be held accountable for their actions. From what I've read of this accident, it sounds like there was reason to believe the driver of this 18-wheeler was not as safe or careful as he ought to have been. To say it's unfortunate that the Parrish man had to pay the ultimate price for the driver's carelessness is an understatement.
