Authorities Seek Help After Fatal Accident In Okeechobee County

Authorities are asking for help after a pedestrian was struck and killed in Okeechobee County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the car accident occurred in the vicinity of County Road 68 and U.S. 441 North.

Authorities say the vehicle was traveling south on U.S. 444. They are asking for the public's help in finding the suspect vehicle, which is described as a small compact with the right side-mirror missing and damage to its right front side.

They have not described the victim of this fatal hit-and-run because his or her next of kin have yet to be identified.

Stories like this are profoundly disturbing, because they indicate a frightening disregard for human life. However, they are not at all uncommon.

When a loved one is taken too soon in something like this, a family can be at a complete loss. Feelings of anger and frustration are natural, as are, of course, those of sadness. Family members can also feel powerless, since they are not sure how they can possibly rectify such a terrible wrong.

Sometimes, filing a wrongful death lawsuit can help the families of accident victims feel that a measure of justice has been obtained. These lawsuits are like any other in that they are not always successful, but when they are, the damages they recover can help bring can be used to defray funeral expenses, loss of income and the like.
