An alleged drunk driver struck two people standing next to a disabled minivan on the shoulder of Interstate 75 in the Naples area. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred early in the morning on Sunday, August 30.
One Injured, One Killed
According to troopers, a vehicle driven by a 34-year-old female motorist crashed into the two people and the minivan near mile marker 98. A 50-year-old man died at the scene. Emergency personnel airlifted a 52-year-old female to Lee Memorial Hospital where medical staff report that she is in critical condition.
Felony Charges
Authorities subsequently arrested the driver that allegedly struck the two individuals. She now faces DUI manslaughter charges. She appeared in court with her attorney on Monday, August 31.
Previous DUI Conviction
WINK News reports that she was also arrested in Orlando for DUI last February. A judge sentenced her to probation, and she concluded serving the sentence in April.
