Although the investigation into this particular accident is ongoing, state law allows those killed or injured due to negligent conduct to seek compensation for a variety of losses, like medical expenses, pain-and-suffering and lost wages. Impaired driving often constitutes evidence of negligence. The parties settle many such cases without a trial.
