Deadly Semi-Truck Accident Causes Road Closures in Martin County

A tractor-trailer and pickup truck got into a head-on collision early on the morning of Thursday, July 16, 2020. The 53-year-old driver of the pickup truck died on scene from injuries from the crash. Florida Highway Patrol responded at around 5:40 a.m., and the Martin County Sheriff announced the Martin Grade Scenic Corridor on Martin Highway would be shut down from 609 to Fox Brown Road while the Florida Highway Patrol investigated.

The tractor-trailer was driving west on Martin Highway and the pickup truck was driving eastbound. The crash is currently under investigation and the identities of the victims have not yet been released.

According to TC Palm, no other information was available on Thursday.

A Familiar Story

Every year, nearly 4,000 people die in large truck crashes. In 2018, 67% of the year’s 4,136 large truck fatalities were passenger vehicle occupants and another 15% were pedestrians, bicyclists, and other motorists.

When passenger vehicles, motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians collide with large trucks, the results are often fatal; even survivors are left with catastrophic injuries.

Truck drivers and the shipping companies that employ them have a duty of care to operate safely. If they fail to do so, they can be held accountable via personal injury law.

At Lauri J. Goldstein & Associates, PLLC, we help victims and families move forward after truck accidents. Our personal injury lawyers are available for the family of the deceased in this tragic accident – and for the injured and bereaved across Martin County and the state of Florida.
